A commission requesting a dramatic dragon. The clients favored the look of the beasts in european based myths.

Several compostions were submitted. The look of the dragon was refined during the selection process and a color palette chosen.

This was a fun piece to work on. I wanted to experiment with applying more detail in the body of the dragon without the size variances attracting attention to themselves, or disturbing the overall rhythm. During my intial research, the beautifully powerful and contrast laden images of John Howe were particularly inspiring.
